Folkstäd - The Temple of Lynzah

Location and Description

The Temple of Lynzah is set atop a prominent hill that overlooks the northern main entrance into Folkstäd. The hill itself is circular with the crest of the hill inlaid with a wide ring of golden gravel. Set at regular intervals are elaborate topiaries with each one carrying the meaning of some aspect of Lynzah.

Beyond the ring of topiaries stands the impressive walls of the Temple. Said to be shaped in the Symbol of Life when seen from above, the walls of the Temple are covered in bright green clinging ivy plants giving the illusion that the building is actually green when seen from afar.

Although the building rises nearly 30 feet into the air, most of the interior is a single story with an immense vaulted ceiling.

At night, the golden gravel gardens glows with faintly shifting hues of yellow and gold.

Temple Leaders

There are few leaders in this remote Temple, the current head of the Temple is the cleric, Q'in.

There are only 5 other clergy assigned and ordained to the Temple.

Gradmonte (♂, human), an elderly man that runs the Temple's small library and is the keeper of all the ceremonial tomes, candles, holy water and other assorted ceremonial items.

Aronya (♀, human), a younger woman that enjoys the gardening job she performs on the topiaries and other gardening and grounds keeping duties.

Shulsa (♀, halfling), a former orphan of the Temple, this middle-aged woman is now second-cleric of the Temple and often leads the prayers as well as other duties.

Tenpik (♂, halfling), a young male cleric that is charged with keeping the orphanage operating and that the education of all orphans is completed. Although often exasperated, Tenpik is unusually optimistic that he is doing a good job.

Ro'Shernn is a burly male human of experienced age that runs the Temple's security team. Typically, Ro'Shernn can be found helping the town guard man the walls, patrol the streets and other duties. But he is also known to sleep in the Temple and therefore his mere potential presence typically keeps unwanted thievery at bay. Ro'Shernn is very devout and is seen leading prayers in many of the guards' barracks and chow halls. It is rumored that Ro'Shernn is a paladin.

Many of the Temple's duties are shared with its local congregation.

Temple Roles

As stated above, the Temple of Lynzah has an orphanage. In fact, it is the only orphanage in all of Folkstäd. The orphanage itself is actually located in a building near the Temple and not on the grounds of the Temple. The Temple pays and contracts some of local folk to help supplement the needs of the orphanage. All of the orphanage operating expenses are therefore donated.

The Temple also operates as a community resource for midwives, births and prenatal care. Shulsa oversees many of these aspects.

Marriages are often officiated by a representative of Lynzah.

Minor funds are also acquired by blessings, counseling and donations after weekly sermons.

Mostly, private donations are used to maintain the Temple and orphanage.

Temple Power

The Temple of Lynzah is fairly powerful in the community and many that are not sympathetic to its cause are swayed to relent by the mere fact that the Temple does so much good in the community.

The Temple itself has never sought political or economic power and seems to be content in the position to grant and receive gifts that help all that need helping.

Nearly half the population of Folkstäd is either outwardly friendly to or actively worshiping at the Temple.
